13 YEAR OLD TRAVELING TEAMS
If you are 13 years old as of April 30, 2008 and are
interested in trying out for Traveling Teams, consider the following:
1.
You are invited to try-out on Sunday, April 6 and April 13 at 2:00
p.m. weather permitting. Notice will be
posted at the Babe Ruth League field if try-outs will be canceled due to the
weather. You do not need to sign up to
attend, just show up and try-out.
Try-outs will consist of running, fielding, throwing and batting. Selection will be based on observation of
the boys during the try-outs. Coaches
from National League teams from last summer will select the Teams. Those who made the team last year are not
guaranteed a spot of this year’s team.
The coaches of the Traveling Teams will be selected from those parents
of boys who earn a spot on that team.
2.
12 boys will be selected for the State Tournament
Traveling Team. This team will
participate in the State Tournament and possibly the Regional Tournament. Depending on the number of boys who show up
for the try-outs, additional traveling teams could be selected depending on the
number of participants.
3.
Starting in May, the State Tournament Traveling Team will
practice each week throughout the summer.
The team will play at least in tournaments on Memorial Day (location
unknown), Father’s Day in Scottsbluff, and possibly one to two other
tournaments in either Wyoming or Colorado, and the 13 year old State Tournament
on the weekend of July 18, 2008 (location unknown) and the 13 year old
Regional Tournament (if they win State) starting Aug 1, 2008 in
Missouri. If the Team wins the Regional
Tournament, they will travel to the World Series August 16-23, 2008 in
Jamestown, New York. That team will be
made up of those boys age 13 and under.
These dates and locations are subject to change.
4.
As to the State Tournament Traveling Team, parents will be
expected to pay for their son’s share of the entry fee for each tournament and
handle their own travel, room and meals to out-of-town tournaments. There may be other costs including uniforms
depending upon sponsor involvement.
Parents will also be asked to help in the concession stand during the
Father’s Day Tournament and any other tournaments or games that are hosted in Scottsbluff.
